Analyzing the Impact of Cover Letter Length on Lead Satisfaction: A Comprehensive Breakdown by Paragraphs

🤏 Size Does Matter

We've noticed an interesting pattern on Upwork that deserves your attention. It all started when our client (Digital Marketing domain), decided to trim down his typically lengthy cover letters into short, precise summaries. What happened next was quite surprising — his Lead Reply Rate (LRR) on Upwork doubled in just a week.

We're well aware of Upwork's ever-shifting ranking system, which sometimes showers your profile with views, invites, and more, sometimes without any clear reason. This instance, however, made us wonder if there's more to it.

So, we dug into the data, and, lo and behold, we found that shorter cover letters do indeed yield better results:

Writing an entire pitch in 10 words might be a stretch, but keeping it within 100-150 words seems reasonable enough to initiate a conversation and grab the client's attention.

Why is this effective, you ask?

Well, just imagine being a client inundated with 100+ proposals for a web development position.

It's a challenge to go through each one thoroughly. Long cover letters, extensive portfolio links, and phrases like "I'm a full-stack developer with 10 years of experience" followed by 4000-character-long narratives are simply overwhelming.

What the clients are looking for is something that stands out within the first three sentences, addresses their primary concerns, and gives them a glimpse of how you've tackled similar cases in the past.

Save the rest of the details for a call. Just win the reply. It's as simple as that.

So, how does your cover letter measure up? Is it time for a trim?

✍️ AI vs Manual Leadgen vs Copypasting

Next up, let's talk about our star feature, Sardor AI. As most of you are aware, this cutting-edge tool leverages the power of GPT-4 and has been trained on countless Upwork cover letters sent over the past few years.

Embedded in our Pro Plan since late March, Sardor AI is creating waves of change.

The data speaks for itself: not only the creative fields like game development, design, and marketing, but even the traditionally high-demand sectors like software development, are observing a significant rise in conversion rates when Sardor AI steps into the game. It's not surprising, given that AI can sometimes bring more creativity to the table than a lead generator churning out hundreds of similar letters.

Not only does it boost conversion rates, but it also manages to send proposals more swiftly than before, with an average delivery time of around 13 minutes.

It even nails those "captcha" puzzles like a pro, adding that requested 'banana' at the beginning of proposals.

Best of all, Sardor AI is capable of answering client questions independently, both Upwork-provided and custom ones = higher LRR :)

Quarrels with your Upwork customers just got a smidgen more bearable!

So gear up to navigate disputes like a pro, right from My Jobs > All Contracts > Find the job with the dispute > See Dispute.

💡 AI tips from Upwork!

Seems like Upwork is taking a page out of our AI playbook with their latest "feature".

They've introduced an AI assistant that "helps" you craft your cover letters. How, you ask?

🤷‍♀ Probably, by doing a simple keyword comparison between your cover letter and the job post. It then showers you with generic advice.

So, if you were expecting an AI cover letter generator courtesy of Upwork, well, sorry to burst your bubble. It's not happening yet.
